Privacy Policy
Your address, your phone number, the photos of your garage — we treat all of it the same way we treat your home. This page explains, in plain English, what we collect, why we collect it, who ever sees it, and how to tell us to stop.
This Privacy Policy explains how Beasts Home Services Inc., operating as Garage Door Beasts ("we", "us", "our"), handles personal information when you visit garagedoorbeasts.ca, call or text us, request a free in-home estimate, or have us install or service a door at your home.
We follow Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share your phone number with anyone for their own marketing.
Who we are
Garage Door Beasts is the operating name of Beasts Home Services Inc., a garage door and entry door company based in Vaughan, Ontario, serving homeowners across the Greater Toronto Area. Our website address is https://garagedoorbeasts.ca.
Beasts Home Services Inc. is the party responsible for the personal information described in this policy. If you would like to reach the person who handles privacy questions here, see How to reach us at the bottom of this page.
Information we collect
Information you give us
Most of what we hold, you handed to us on purpose — usually while booking an estimate or getting work done:
- Contact details — your name, phone number, email address, and the service address where the work would be done.
- Project details — door size and current condition, opener type, styles and colours you like, photos or measurements you send us, and your budget or timing.
- Appointment information — the dates and times you're available, access instructions, and notes our estimator or installer records on site.
- Transaction information — quotes, invoices, warranty registrations, and payment records. Card and financing details are entered directly with our payment processor or lender; we do not store full credit card numbers on our systems.
- Your messages — emails, text messages, web form submissions, chat messages, and reviews or testimonials you send us.
Information collected automatically
When you browse the site, our website and its service providers collect standard technical information: your IP address, browser type and user agent string, device and operating system, referring website or ad, the pages you viewed and how long you stayed, and general location (city or region) derived from your IP address. This is collected through cookies and similar technologies described in Cookies.
Information from calls and texts
Our phone numbers are handled through a call tracking and messaging platform. When you call or text us, we may collect your phone number, the date, time and length of the contact, the ad or web page that led you to that number, and — where the law permits and you are notified at the start of the call — a recording or transcript, which we use for quality, training and accuracy of your quote.
Information from other sources
We may also receive information about you from review platforms such as Google and HomeStars when you post about us, from advertising platforms that report on which ad you responded to, from home improvement referral partners you have asked to contact us, and from manufacturers and suppliers in connection with warranty claims.
How we use your information
We use personal information only for reasons a reasonable person would expect:
- To respond to your enquiry, book your free in-home estimate, and prepare a written quote.
- To order, deliver, install and service your doors and openers, and to coordinate with our installers and suppliers.
- To process payments, arrange financing you have applied for, and issue invoices and receipts.
- To handle warranty claims, service calls and follow-up support.
- To send you appointment confirmations, arrival windows, and service updates (see Text Messages).
- To ask for a review, and — with your consent — to send occasional promotions, seasonal maintenance reminders and news about our services.
- To display testimonials, project photos or before-and-after images, only where you have given permission.
- To understand which pages and ads bring homeowners to us, and to improve our website and service.
- To protect against fraud, spam and misuse of our website, and to keep our systems secure.
- To meet legal, tax, insurance, licensing and regulatory obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not rent or trade your contact details to other companies for their own marketing.
Your consent
We collect, use and disclose personal information with your knowledge and consent, except where the law allows or requires otherwise. Consent may be express — you fill in our form, check a box, or tell us verbally — or implied, where the purpose is obvious from the situation, such as giving us your address so we can come and measure your garage.
You can withdraw your consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice. If you withdraw consent for something we need in order to complete work you've booked — your service address, for example — we may not be able to continue providing that service. Withdrawing consent to marketing never affects a job we're already doing for you.
Text Messages
Beasts Home Services Inc. sends text message updates and responses to consumer customers about pricing and products and services offered at Garage Door Beasts.
Mobile information will not be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Beasts Home Services Inc. We respect your privacy. We use information you provide to send and respond to your mobile messages. This includes sharing it with platform providers, phone companies, and other vendors who help us deliver messages. We won’t share mobile information with third parties for marketing. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent are exempt from this. We may disclose information to satisfy legal, regulatory, or governmental requests, avoid liability, or protect our rights or property. This policy applies to your use of the Text Message Service and doesn’t modify our general Privacy Policy, which may govern our relationship with you in other contexts.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. We use them to keep the site working, to remember your preferences, and to understand how the site is used.
- Essential cookies — needed for the site to function, including security and spam protection. These can't be switched off in our system.
- Preference cookies — if you leave a comment, you may opt in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies so you don't have to type them again. These last for one year.
- Analytics cookies — help us count visitors and see which pages are useful, in aggregate.
- Advertising cookies — set by advertising platforms so we can measure which ads lead to booked estimates, and so you may see our ads again on other sites.
If you visit our login page we set a temporary cookie to check whether your browser accepts cookies. It contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser. When a site administrator logs in, we set cookies to save login information and screen display choices: login cookies last two days and screen options cookies last a year, or two weeks if "Remember Me" is selected. Logging out removes them. Editing or publishing an article saves one additional cookie containing no personal data, just the post ID of the article edited; it expires after one day.
You can accept, refuse or delete cookies through your browser settings, and use our cookie banner where one is shown. Blocking all cookies may break parts of the site.
Analytics, advertising and call tracking
We use a small number of third-party tools to understand how homeowners find us and whether our advertising is working. Most of them are delivered through Google Tag Manager, a container service that manages which tags run on our site.
- Google Analytics — measures website traffic in aggregate: pages viewed, time on page, device and browser type, approximate location, and the site or ad that referred you. Google sets cookies containing a randomly generated identifier.
- Google Ads — conversion tracking and remarketing. It records when a visit from one of our ads leads to a phone call or form submission, and may allow our ads to be shown to you again on other websites and on YouTube.
- Meta Ads (Facebook and Instagram) — the Meta pixel, which we deploy through our Google Tag Manager container, does the same for our Facebook and Instagram advertising: it measures which ads lead to enquiries and builds remarketing audiences so we can reach similar homeowners.
- CallRail — assigns tracking phone numbers to our ads and web pages so we can tell which marketing actually generates calls. It records your phone number, the date, time and length of the call, and the marketing source that led to it. CallRail also powers the messaging described in Text Messages above.
These providers process the data described in Information we collect on our behalf, under contract, and are not permitted to use it for their own unrelated purposes. Reports we see are aggregated wherever possible.
Prefer not to be measured? You can install Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on, manage advertising personalisation in your Google and Meta account settings, opt out through the Digital Advertising Alliance of Canada's AdChoices tool, or block advertising cookies in your browser.
Who we share your data with
We share personal information only where it's needed, and only with:
- Service providers who work on our behalf — website hosting, our CRM and scheduling software, email and text messaging platforms, call tracking, payment processors, accounting, and review request tools. They may only use the information to provide services to us.
- Installers and technicians, including subcontracted crews, who need your address, contact number and job details to complete your work.
- Manufacturers and suppliers, where required to order a custom door or to register or process a warranty claim.
- Financing partners, only if you choose to apply for financing and only with your consent.
- Professional advisors such as our accountants, lawyers and insurers, where reasonably required.
- A purchaser or successor, if our business is sold, merged or reorganized — in which case your information would be transferred as part of the business, subject to this policy.
- Authorities, where we are required or permitted by law to disclose information, or where disclosure is necessary to investigate fraud or protect the safety, rights or property of a person or of our company.
If you request a password reset on our website, your IP address will be included in the reset email. Mobile opt-in and consent data is never shared with third parties for marketing — see Text Messages.
Comments, reviews and media
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, plus the visitor's IP address and browser user agent string, to help with spam detection. An anonymized string created from your email address (a "hash") may be provided to the Gravatar service to see whether you use it; the Gravatar service privacy policy is available at https://automattic.com/privacy/. After your comment is approved, your profile picture is visible to the public alongside your comment.
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
If you upload images to the website, avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included — visitors to the website can download those images and extract the location data from them.
If you send us photos of your home, or agree to let us photograph a completed installation, we may use those images in our portfolio, on social media, or in advertising. Tell us if you'd rather we didn't, and we won't — and if we've already published something you'd like removed, email us and we'll take it down.
Embedded content from other websites
Pages on this site may include embedded content such as videos, images, maps and reviews. Embedded content from other websites behaves in exactly the same way as if you had visited that other website directly.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content — including tracking your interaction with it if you have an account and are logged in to that website. Their privacy policies, not ours, govern that activity.
How long we keep your data
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy, or as long as the law requires — whichever is longer.
- Estimates that didn't proceed — kept for a limited period so we can honour a quote or pick up where we left off, then deleted or anonymized.
- Job, installation and warranty records — kept for the length of the applicable warranty plus a reasonable period after it expires, so we can service what we installed.
- Invoices and financial records — kept for the period required by Canadian tax law, generally six years from the end of the tax year to which they relate.
- Marketing contact details — kept until you unsubscribe or withdraw consent, after which we retain only enough information to make sure we don't contact you again.
- Website comments — comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely, so follow-up comments can be recognized and approved automatically instead of being held in a moderation queue.
- Registered website users — we store the personal information provided in the user profile. All users can see, edit or delete their personal information at any time (except their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
When information is no longer needed, we securely delete it or render it anonymous.
How we protect your data
We use physical, administrative and technical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information: encrypted connections (HTTPS) on our website, access restricted to staff and contractors who need it to do their job, password protection and multi-factor authentication on our business accounts, reputable service providers with their own security commitments, and secure disposal of paper records.
No method of transmitting or storing information is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we ever become aware of a breach that creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will notify you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as required by law.
We will never ask you for your credit card number, banking password or SIN by text message or email. If you receive a message like that claiming to be from us, don't reply — call us directly at (647) 424-3555.
Your rights and choices
Under Canadian privacy law you can:
- Access the personal information we hold about you, and be told how it's been used and who it's been shared with.
- Correct information that's inaccurate or incomplete.
- Withdraw consent to our use of your information, subject to legal and contractual limits.
- Request deletion of your information, except where we're required to keep it for legal, tax, warranty, insurance or security reasons.
- Request a copy of your data in a portable format, where applicable.
- Complain to us, and to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, about how we've handled your information.
Opting out of messages
- Email — click "unsubscribe" at the bottom of any marketing email, or email us and ask.
- Text messages — reply STOP to any message to opt out, or HELP for assistance. Message and data rates may apply.
- Phone calls — tell us on the call, or email us, and we'll add you to our internal do-not-call list.
You'll still receive non-marketing messages about work you've booked — appointment confirmations, arrival windows and service notices — unless you cancel the job.
Making a request
Email info@garagedoorbeasts.ca or call (647) 424-3555. We may need to verify your identity before we release information. We'll respond within 30 days, and tell you in advance if we need an extension. Access is free in most cases; if a request would involve significant cost, we'll give you an estimate first and you can decide whether to proceed.
If you're not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca or 1-800-282-1376.
Where your data is stored
Some of our service providers — including our website host, CRM, email and text messaging platforms — store or process data on servers located outside Canada, primarily in the United States. While information is in another country, it is subject to that country's laws and may be accessible to its courts, law enforcement and national security authorities.
We use contractual and other means to require comparable protection for your information wherever it is processed. If you'd like more information about our policies and practices regarding service providers outside Canada, contact us using the details below.
Children's privacy
Our website and services are directed to homeowners and are not intended for children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Do Not Track
Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) setting. There is still no common industry standard for how websites should respond to it, so our website does not currently respond to DNT signals. You can still control tracking through your browser's cookie settings and the opt-out tools listed under Analytics, advertising and call tracking.
Links to other websites
Our site links to other websites — manufacturers, review platforms, financing partners and our social media profiles. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for their content or privacy practices. Once you leave garagedoorbeasts.ca, this policy no longer applies; read the privacy policy of any site you visit.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, our technology, or the law. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If the changes are significant, we'll post a prominent notice on our website or contact you directly. Continuing to use our website or services after an update means you accept the revised policy, so it's worth checking back occasionally.
